Mildura to Echuca

We have followed the Murray river today, we didn’t see too much of it except when we stopped in the towns along the way. Like in Swan Hill where we both warmed up on the soup du jour as it is quite chilly.

The countryside is nice enough but largely unremarkable, vineyards to begin with then almond trees by the mile and finally mixed cropping and dairy as we arrived at our destination for the night, Echuca.

A pretty place, once again on the banks of the Murray. Many house boats moored and a lovely old precinct with bars, cafes and art galleries.

It must be very busy in the summer with cruises on the Murray river being so popular. As it is, this place is very busy with “no vacancy” signs everywhere and for the first time our accommodation budget has been exceeded.

We passed quite a large greek restaurant on our way home from exploring and the only time they could seat us was 5:30. So an early dinner for us which was a very nice meal.

We are almost directly north and about 2 hours from Melbourne so I guess this is a popular weekend getaway place.
